Crutcher, Paul. “Complexity in the Comic and Graphic Novel Medium: Inquiry Through Bestselling Batman Stories.” Journal of Popular Culture. 44.1 (2011): 53-72. |

This is the book I was talking about earlier! It was published in ‘95, and I think my parents must’ve bought it for me sometime around my 8-10th birthdays. Most of the stuff in here wasn’t really appropriate for that age, but I didn’t even care. I devoured this book and am really, really happy I was able to find it again, because there are several others in the series! This will always be my favorite, though. I grew up reading it even before I read the actual Batman comics.
Some of the stories in here aren’t the best- there’s a few that are frankly really misogynystic (Catwoman and random female side characters, what do you expect) and Robin very rarely shows up- and shockingly, for a book with so many stories about the Joker, Jason Todd doesn’t show up once! Only a young version of Dick Grayson is ever around and he’s only in a handful of the stories.
However, some of these stories are absolutely stunning and deal with real-life problems like homelessness, grief, racial issues, domestic abuse, etc. I think this was a formative read for me at that age. Not every story in it is perfect- it’s essentially a collection of approved fanfics and almost none of them fit in any comic’s continuity- but that’s not the point. The myriad of different interpretations of the Batman and all the characters around him are really incredible. Seriously, I am amazed, reading back on these. The depth of introspection into all of the characters are really impressive in some of these, regardless of different in interpretation.
Triggery stuff abounds- identity issues, sexual assault, self-harm, domestic and child abuse, violence, mental illness, murder, drug use, etc- but goddamn was that a good book for me when I was younger. Even now, with the spine breaking and pages stained with nicotine to Joker’s-teeth-yellow, I really enjoy this book and I look forward to grabbing the others sometime soon.
So there was this book that my parents bought me in the 90’s, and I’ve never been able to find it anywhere since then.
It was a thick book of DC-approved short stories for Batman. All the stories centered around either the Joker or Catwoman. There was at least one other book in the series whose stories all centered around Two-Face and the Riddler.
Most of them were very, very good, and all were very clever, but I’ve never been able to find it or the other book online! I’ll try looking up the ISPN sometime, but dang. Anyone know what I’m talking about?
Damian isn’t dead…he’s just universe hopping.
My super cool co-worker asked for some Stitch and Damian. Sorry it took so long, Steph! Excuse how messy it is please. I had a lot of fun with this one. :B
this is still one of my favourite bits of wonder woman art out there because WOW she’s so dynamic and strong and the colours are just really, really great
a+ excellent wondy
Okay but this is really great because it’s a redesign that manages to be both somewhat practical and still be gorgeous? Thin straps to keep the top in place and support the breasts, a skirt and sandals reminiscent of Greek warriors, and cuffs. And a headband that keeps her hair out of her face. And all of that with realistic textures and excellent detail work.
See, THIS is the sort of thing people designing for that live action show or whatever should’ve looked into, because it’s appealing, sexy, and more realistic. Dang, I’m impressed.
and that’s how i contributed to the fandom at 3AM
“goal is now to make radical fashion statments in hopes that bruce will notice him”
HA HA OMG! I legit choked at that part.
Well, this is embarrassing
Left: Adrianne Palicki promo shot for NBC’s Wonder Woman.
Right: Kimberly Kane promo shot for ‘Wonder Woman XXX: An Axel Braun Parody’.
….is it just me or does the porno version outfit not only look WAY BETTER crafted and prettier, the actress also has more muscles, a nicer fitting chest piece and a waaay more fitting body type and skin tone.
Also the porno version doesn’t look more “feminine”/more sexy whatever.
That… is EMBARASSING
the “official” one looks like a really bad Halloween costume
I mean fuck the porno one has bigger wrist cuff I REPEATE: BIGGER WRIST CUFFS PORNO WOMAN IS BETTER DRESSED TO KICK ASS *cries*
PORNO ALWAYS WINS
I think a huge reason why the official outfit looks so ridiculous is that it’s SHINY. Having the gold tones be shiny makes sense, but the rest of it? Hell no. Shine, in both fabrics and wigs, indicate poor quality and costume usage. That’s why we have tips to get the shine out of wigs and why experienced cosplayers tend toward heavier (and not shiny) fabrics unless the costume calls for it.
And even though the bottom of the porno version is a little thin, her breasts are more covered up.
This is just sad.

Teen Titans (2003) Character profiles vs Teen Titans Go! (2013) Character profiles according to Cartoonnetwork.com
Uh… what? Did they even check… what?
They… they’re gonna disregard her past, aren’t they?
Unrequited puppy love? Where did they…. what?
…but he was never stupid… maybe naive with some things but to reduce his insecurities and occasional naivete into calling him dim is just…. Fuck.
Wait what the actual fuck did they do the Cyborg. No, this is not okay, Cyborg was one of my FAVORITE characters in the original show. He struggled with the fact that he wasn’t always sure how much of his humanity remained after he became half robot. He was SHUNNED by his family and friends because of this, but always tried to make the best out of the situation. He cared about fighting for people, and yes while he loved his food, it never was a reason why he didn’t fight crime, in fact he enjoyed doing his part to help people and just…. FUCK really CN and DC?! FUCKING REALLY?! Not only do you overhaul Young Justice and Green Lantern for a whole new line up, but half of that line up TRASHES the characters of the Titans and reduced them down to caricatures. I was happy, at first, to hear we might get a Teen titans cartoon. I LOVED the one from 2003, and I though that would be the one that they took the most inspiration from. Instead they take the BASE of BASIC CHARACTERISTICS of these characters and make that their entire persona. Now I haven’t seen the new show yet, but if the bios they are giving are any indicator, I am not gonna be happy with this new take at all.
(Oh and don’t even get me started on the trailer they use for Teen Titans Go. They have Starfire FLIP A BITCH when her hair gets damaged. WHERE THE FUCK DID THAT TRAIT COME FROM?! Starfire didn’t really care about physical appearance in Teen titans (or in the comics), and she certainly wouldn’t go BATSHIT CRAZY because her hair gets damaged in a fight. Fucking REALLY?!)
what if theyre literally just doing it based on fan interpretations of the characters??

look it’s dick grayson
this guy is nuts!
Good At Parkour
I’ve seen the guys from my parkour group do things similar to parts of this (the top traceurs in the group can do some ridiculous jumps), but I haven’t witnessed anything to compare to this whole sequence.
I myself am terrible at jumping onto bars at all, never mind bars that high and far apart.
Not as much time for doodling today, but I had to get this out at least. I love Jaime Reyes, and I’m one of those that loves him because of Batman Brave and the Bold. I haven’t read his comics and I felt like he should have had more character story in YJ considering he turned into a big bad for a while. In any case, I still like Ted Kord as well and I thought it’d be cool if Jaime and Khaji Da sorta of tweaked the armor to reflect Ted’s look.
Also if Jaime ever gets his own show it should be handled like a super-sentai type thing where he calls out Khaji Da and there’s a really awesome transformation sequence every time.
