this is what heterophobia would look like if it was real. if you believe that heterophobia is a real thing that exists, please watch this because you will see that it simply doesn’t exist, that it never has and never will.

tbh I think everyone should watch this anyway because it’s very clever and very powerful

I’m like crying and shaking

Everyone needs to watch this

Heterophobia does actually exist, but it isn’t an integral part of our lives. Homophobia, sexism, and racism are all just part of the background noise because they’ve sunk their roots so deeply into our culture that we can’t see them anymore. White, cis, heterosexual face very little discrimination for those specific reasons.

The fact that it takes something like this to make people realize that is horrifying.

basically gay marriage should be legal but it’s basically the least pressing queer issue there is. coincidentally it’s the one that allies care most about. haha ok come back to me when you care about the rates of homelessness and violence and suicide among queer youth

what im sayin

I had a pretty bad depression episode and took a nap so I’d feel better.

Aaand I ended up having a dream with monsters/zombies and the end of the world. And it was vaguely Persona-esque, except there was one fighter person and two other humans had to channel that person’s power and died really quickly as a result.

My parents were my channels, and my brother forced me to leave the city as HE used them, and then his wife and our cousin, to get rid of the creatures. And that wasn’t the only dream of that kind I had along those lines. So unlike that waking dream I had days ago where the world was empty because I was dead, this time I was alone because everyone else was dead.

Thanks again, brain.

Celeste38’s Silly Little Soapbox: Steubenville’s Jane Doe asked people to do something…

createourownlight:

I’ve never asked anyone to reblog anything before, and I probably won’t again. But I am now - because this matters.

The Steubenville rape victim, when offered money for her legal expenses or counselling, asked that people donated to a shelter for abused women and children in her county,  Madden House, instead.

Her attorney spoke in a local news article on why the family wanted this, and said they hope very much that “the attention … can help other people that have been victimized by this type of crime,” Fitzsimmons said, “and give them some strength and some assurance that people are there to help them when that happens.”

You can donate as little as $2 via your Paypal account to Madden House. (You can also navigate their website from that link, to be sure it’s a charity you can also believe in.) When I donated back in January, they had a message up that said, “Every single cent says, ‘We believe you, and we care.’” They had to remove it almost at once. I’m sure you can deduce the reasons why, in a case where even her status as “victim” was challenged before the trial.

Madden House and the Family Violence Project helps anyone, men included, but they have a strong focus on families, and on low-income women, especially those from the African-American population.

The best way to show you support Jane Doe is to make a donation, however small and leave a Paypal note when you do saying “In the name of Jane Doe, Steubenville.” They are telling her how many people donate in her name so it’s a direct way of letting her know. Even if all you can afford is a dollar, a thousand Tumblr users donating that is a thousand dollars for abuse victims. And it’s also a thousand people telling her directly that they, unlike the likes of CNN and her erstwhile “friends”, care about her, support her, and believe in her. It’s what she has actually asked people to do. In a case where she has been so effectively silenced and sidelined, I think acknowledging she’s been heard is particularly important.

I think it says so much about this girl and her parents, that when met with offers of serious money they immediately asked that it went to a charity that helps other victims of violence instead. They are extraordinary people in my opinion, and that’s why she had the strength to come forward. Images of two other girls, naked and face down on that basement carpet, were found on a phone. The boy insisted he’d never seen them before, and had no idea who they were of. Jane Doe may well not have been speaking up only for herself. She has very possibly saved others with her courage. She deserves so much more respect than the mainstream media have given her.

If you can’t donate, I really do understand. I’ve been broke before too. But please, do reblog. Get the message out. There is a genuine, positive way to support the victim, in the way she has asked for, and this is it.

Sorry it’s so long. There are so many scams online that I wanted to provide ample links, so there can be no doubt this is legit. Please, if you can, donate/reblog. Show Jane Doe what you think of her.

Well shit, I ain’t rich but I got two bucks.

how dare that victim not have bulletproof flesh

how dare their body bleed out from the wound

how dare they die on the way to the hospital

those poor gunmen. their lives ahead of them in ruins because someone was inconsiderate enough to allow themselves to be shot.

you see, it doesn’t fucking work this way.

Reblogging and adding this:

CNN have a habit of being pretty scummy in general, they did some racist bullshit a few years ago:

image

The headline has nothing to do with what the research actually indicated, it was totally unnecessary and gross. I wrote them to complain and nothing happened. These days they’re posting ads disguised as news headlines and supporting rapists in non-editorial pieces. They piss me right off.

CNN’s Candy Crowley began her breaking news report by showing Lipps handing down the sentence and telling CNN reporter Poppy Harlow that she “cannot imagine” how emotional the sentencing must have been.

Harlow explained that it had been “incredibly difficult” to watch “as these two young men — who had such promising futures, star football players, very good students — literally watched as they believed their life fell apart.”

“One of the young men, Ma’lik Richmond, as that sentence came down, he collapsed,” the CNN reporter recalled, adding that the convicted rapist told his attorney that “my life is over, no one is going to want me now.”

At that point, CNN played video of Richmond crying and hugging his lawyer in the courtroom.

“I was sitting about three feet from Ma’lik when he gave that statement,” Harlow said. “It was very difficult to watch.”

Candy then asked CNN legal contributor Paul Callan what the verdict meant for “a 16 year old, sobbing in court, regardless of what big football players they are, they still sound like 16 year olds.”

“What’s the lasting effect though on two young men being found guilty juvenile court of rape essentially?” Crowley wondered.

“There’s always that moment of just — lives are destroyed,” Callan remarked. “But in terms of what happens now, the most severe thing with these young men is being labeled as registered sex offenders. That label is now placed on them by Ohio law.”

“That will haunt them for the rest of their lives.”

Publishers destroy Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark’s amazing artwork

Gammell’s black and white monsters and images of exploding spider nests burrowing under your skin make children everywhere cry. They’re beautiful and horrifying at the same time (and still haunt some of my most spectacular fever dreams even to this day). But now, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of this book trilogy, the publishers have decided to take a giant dump on Gammell’s spooky legacy and replace his illustrations.

The publishers have hired Brett Helquist (another talented artist) to replace the original illustrations. No disrespect to Helquist — but this is an atrocity. We totally understand what the publishers are trying to do here, and appeal to a younger demographic with these images. But if your child couldn’t handle Gammell’s paintings, they’re certainly not going to be able to stomach a short story about a scarecrow who skins a farmer alive and dries out his skin sack trophy on the roof. Gammell’s art is an integral part of this collection. The least they could do is release a special art book as a companion. This is just supernatural blasphemy.

WELP

This still makes me mad.

oh man no these books were my childhood I loved the creepiness in the pictures it added so much imagination to the stories ;___;

what is this fresh bullshit

This isn’t even a little bit okay. If kids aren’t picking up these books because they want to be scared,  they’re doing it wrong. These new illustrations are pretty, but that’s it- just pretty. Nothing like the haunting, viscerally terrifying quality of the old illustrations, which matched perfectly with the stories. It’s meant to scare you.

Okay guys, hate on Naruto all you want- and I will admit, the fandom in particular is aggravating as fuck, and the earlier bits really annoying at times with some cheap humor- but fuck, I’m impressed at how realistic a lot of it is.

I’m not talking about how realistic ninjas are, I’m talking people

Personal story time: most of our lives, my brother and I were bullied and didn’t have the best home life. We were left alone a lot, and generally didn’t have the best time. I reacted by becoming angry and withdrawn, snarling at anyone who interrupted my reading, and stopped trying to make friends at all.

My brother? My brother reacted to it by doing just about anything for attention, insisting that he’d become better a better person than our father or the adults around us, and did just about anything to get friends and attention. He lied about awesome things he did or had, tried out for all the sports even when he wasn’t good at them, got suspended more times than I can count for pulling some stupid stunt to impress our classmates.

Who does this remind you of?

I’m still reading this series because, despite how aggravating certain parts  can be, a lot of the psychology is painfully spot-on.

My brother, when faced with the responsibility of a child, left the house and started his family. He’s quiet now, thinner and taller, and his smile doesn’t come as easily, but he’s doing his best. I still look at him and see the little shit that got us suspended from the bus for chucking things at the front, but he’s changed so much. For the better, I think, although it’s going to be a long time before either of us recover from the shit we went through.

He’s still going, and still trying to keep the promises we made as kids. That’s good enough for me.

There is good news this week! My eye is okay again =D

I’m pretty certain that it got some nasty scratches, as my sight is a little cloudy/blurred, but only the slightest bit. It doesn’t hurt anymore, and it definitely doesn’t feel like there’s anything bothering it at the moment.

I guess we’ll have to wait and see if the cloudiness goes away. If not, it probably won’t affect my life too much- I don’t notice it unless I’m looking for it, and I have glasses I can wear. I just hope that any damage heals itself.

TL;DR, getting eyelashes and stuff stuck in your eye for a day straight sucks.

Just be careful it doesn’t hit you like a ton of bricks in a bit.

I don’t really see the point to drinking, tbh. All I’m getting here is a little dizziness and a feeling like swimming through soup. How is that desirable? I don’t get it.

Not that I’m drunk. I’m barely on the sober end of tipsy. T:

I guess I don’t get the pleasure in this.

I don’t get why my dad does this, why he’s pretty much dedicated his LIFE to drinking. There’s no pleasure here. Just a sortof mild sleepiness. It’s boring. Alcohol is dumb.

I think I’m the Terminator.

1/4 of my bottle of sake left and I’m still easily capable of rational speech, typing correctly, and doing homework.

Shit’s only 15.6% proof ain’t nobody got time for that
